Engineering Manager (EM)

You are a steward of WHOOP culture and core values. You lead, motivate, and inspire all team members to align with WHOOP's mission, vision, and goals. You can effectively manage and mentor others with some support. You are committed to the growth of your direct reports and provide them with direction and guidance within established policies and guidelines.

You are responsible for creating an environment of high psychological safety where team members can operate openly and honestly. You partner with HR to perform performance management to best support your direct report and the company. You work with your manager and HR/Talent Team to ensure the success of their direct reports and contribute to the advancement, hiring, and firing decisions. You identify team members who need support and provide it. You identify team members who want a challenge and extra growth opportunities and provide them. You align individual career goals with company goals and relentlessly pursue opportunities for the growth of your direct reports.

You manage conflict that arises on the team swiftly and empathetically. You partner with HR to navigate behavior management when a direct report is acting in a fashion that is misaligned with WHOOP’s core values.

Engineering Managers start at level 3 to indicate that they are expected to have SWE3 - Senior level experience prior. Transition to EM3 can begin at any level above SWE3 - Senior.
